Who is a shopper stylist? The profession of shopper – the story of a professional Anastasia Slabunova
Shopper stylist, shopping consultant, personal shopper, image consultant – all these names are variations of a young, interesting and very promising profession. It’s about how everything works and why the work of a personal shopping counselor is 90% of work and 10% of inspiration, but still it’s a creative activity. Personal shopping in Italy with Anastasia Slabunova About 8 years ago, when I was just starting my career as a shopper, for many of my acquaintances and friends it was a mystery: “Anastasia, what exactly are you planning to do?”. Many of them knew me as a person enthusiastic about fashion, style, I already helped to choose a wardrobe and outfits for special occasions. At the same time, it was difficult for my friends to imagine that this occupation, this work, could be a profession and a source of income. Well, years have passed … A lot has changed since then, and today I’m going to write for months in advance. The schedule is very tight and my clients are recorded in advance, for example, in December for May-June. It seems that the profession still was in demand, is not it? This year we celebrated it 13 times with my client, a stylist in Italy, with my client. “A small background: How it all began” Many stylists say that their passion for fashion began in childhood, I am no exception. From a very young age I wanted to be beautiful, bright, attractive. My mom is a successful and business woman who supported this interest and helped me come up with outfits. I worked in a design studio, studied at an art school, talked with artists, and later studied with a famous Moscow stylist. Friends and acquaintances constantly sought advice. Moving to Italy made it possible to begin the path to making a dream of becoming a professional stylist. Beautiful country, boutiques, fashionable public have become a favorable environment for this. In just a few months, my first website appeared, and with it my first clients. A year after the start of work, the shopper-stylist invited me to take a course on “How to become an image consultant” at the Italian Academy of Fashion Accademia del Lusso. Teaching allowed me to systematize the experience and, at the same time, make sure that my work is akin to the work of the artist. Even having mastered all the knowledge and having read all the specialized books, you will not become one. In my profession it is important to feel like a person, “live” his life a little in your imagination, in order to understand how to shape it externally. There is no formula by which you can mix the right colors and get a masterpiece. Success is 90% of work and 10% of inspiration. I do most of my work in advance. Hidden from the eyes of my clients, many hours of shopping in boutiques and showrooms in order to fully form a wardrobe. This is quite a hard physical work. It’s one thing when you leisurely search for one pair of shoes or a bag. Imagine what you need to choose: a suit, shirt, skirt, cardigan, blouse, coat, dress, pants, belt, shoes, bag, headgear and accessories, and much more. And so that all these things fit you in size, combine with each other and fit your lifestyle. The work is creative, but it is a serious work. Only when packing my bags with a new wardrobe, my clients realize that a lot of preparatory work preceded the easy fitting. The entire wardrobe, down to the smallest details, was thought out long before their arrival. Many, coming once again to me for shopping in Italy, already only expand and complement their wardrobe. I make it so that all things complement each other, create interesting combinations and at the same time it (the wardrobe) is unique. As an artist, I compose a palette from which a wonderful painting later emerges. When my client tries on my chosen wardrobe, everything suits him, he is happy, and I am happy no less, and maybe more. It is a great pleasure to see the result of your work … This is success! My job is joy! Anastasia Slabunova, a Italian stylus shopper During these wonderful 8 years, I met a lot of interesting people. Among them are famous personalities whose names I cannot disclose, they wished to remain incognito. Many strong and confident people who have reached the pinnacle of success. There are many who are just starting their careers, but they understand how important appearance is. As well as many who did not feel self-confidence, but a new image helped to find it. Over the years, I have changed, my clients have changed, the world around us has changed, but, looking back, I see that one thing remains unchanged – people’s desire for beauty and success. And the work of the shopper-stylist is to match your individual key to these two components of a prosperous life. I told about myself, about my experience as a shopping consultant. I think that my other colleagues may have similar feelings when they work with their clients, but perhaps they will tell about this themselves.
