Sales are a natural and very attractive trade phenomenon for lovers of fashionable clothes and accessories. And it is not surprising, because the higher the initial price of the product, the more you save by buying it at a sale. This simple arithmetic works flawlessly, attracting crowds of buyers. This is the most favorite and usual time for discounts both in Europe and in America. So where should you go? Paris: soldes in high season The capital of haute couture, perhaps the most fashionable city in the world, Paris is one of the most attractive places for shopping lovers. Sales here are twice a year (as we said above) – in the summer and at Christmas. Italy: in pursuit of a discount In Italy, there are so-called sales seasons. Winter begins on January 15, and summer begins on July 16. Many stores carry out various promotions, announcing special discounts in honor of the day the company was founded, for example. In addition, in small stores you can get a discount at almost any time of the year, especially when buying goods for a significant amount. In Milan, the true fashion capital of Italy, this season lasts from January 7 to February 1 and from the beginning of July to the end of August. At this time, bright inscriptions and signs “Sconti” (“discounts”) and “Saldi” (“sales”) appear in shop windows. With the beginning of the sales season, the prices of goods even leading designers are significantly reduced. In addition to the season of sales, a discount can be obtained almost all year round – some stores reduce prices on holidays, some hold promotions, sell clothes from the collections of the past season somewhere. In addition, in Milan there are stock stores and outlet stores that sell discounts all year round. The fashionable word outlet in Milan has three meanings: drains (shops with discounted goods), spacchi (stores where they sell goods directly from the manufacturer) and outlet centers (shopping centers where you can find spacci and drains). Serravalle Designer Outlet, for example, is the largest outlet in Europe. This is a shopping center where the goods of most global manufacturers are collected. The season of discounts here lasts the whole year, and you can meet things at a discount of 70% or more. There are all well-known international brands: Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Prada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Trussardi, Roberto Cavalli, Baldinini, Nike, Valentino, Lacoste, Glenfield, Guess and many others. The highlight of shopping in Rome is a visit to the famous outlet Designer McArthurGlen, a real paradise for shopaholics. It sells only the highest quality clothing from the most prestigious designers, with a discount of 30% to 70% (all year round). In addition to the numerous shops, there are restaurants, cafes, fast-food outlets and a children’s play area. Sure, here you will spend a lot of time. London: Shopaholics Mecca The traditional time of sales in the UK is January (December) and July. In London, there are more than thirty thousand stores, with almost three thousand located in the center. Famous London department stores Harrods and Selfridges usually offer discounts in the region from 30 to 70%. Usually, the beginning of the sales season resembles a mass insanity – people with tents and sleeping bags start to occupy places at the entrances to the cherished shops for a day or two before the hour X. In Harrods, the start of sales is announced by its owner, millionaire Mohammed Al-Fayed, along with a guest celebrity. Christina Aguilera, Salma Hayek, Kim Cattroll and Lily Allen have already been in this role. After all, the goods that are in the highest demand, as a rule, are bought up in the first days, or even hours, after the start of sales. The cost of goods is reduced by two or even three times. The total sale soon gives way to more familiar 20-30% discounts, which only at the end of January again reach 80%. Almost everything is subject to markdown – from the usual seasonal assortment to household appliances, furniture and other interior items. Many magazines and even electronic publications pre-publish something like a guidebook, indicating the addresses and specialization of shops and boutiques, their mode of operation, prices and expected discounts.
